Director, Quality Engineer

Storable is looking for a Quality Engineering Director to join the Engineering leadership team.  You will provide the leadership, team building and execution necessary to ensure that all products are of high quality.  You will partner with product management, engineering, architecture, devops, professional services, and customer support stakeholders to deliver quality features and to execute a unified Quality Engineering strategy, standards and technologies that are leveraged across the organization. 


You have a successful history transforming teams from quality assurance to quality engineering, instilling test automation and testability and championing white box testing techniques. You’re a hands-on leader who can set direction on both quality strategy and test automation architecture. You have recent hands-on experiences with various test automation tools, both commercial and open source with the full technology stack, both back-end and UI level.

What you’ll do every day:

  • Direct the activities of the Storable software quality engineering function.

  • Drive test architecture, test automation, best practices, framework, tools, and systems for a results-oriented organization.

  • Champion test automation tools and methodologies that are flexible/scalable and extensible, including defining the test automation process and deliverables across the development life cycle.

  • Identify test data and environment needs for implementing the test strategy, aligning with DevOps Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD). 

  • Develop quality standards for company products and provide oversight for the creation and execution of software test plans including the analysis of test results. 

  • Take an active role executing on the Storable quality strategy and roadmap, leading Storable’s quality paradigm initiative.

  • Foster a continuous improvement culture focused on root cause removal, ultimately increasing test coverage and reducing the number of escaped defects by 50% over a 2-year time period.

  • Leverage technical expertise and industry trends to influence business, product strategy and quality engineering best practices.

  • Partner with business and technology teams to prioritize roadmaps, requirements, balancing business need with financial and technology constraints.

  • Implement a data-driven QE process leveraging quality metrics to streamline decision-making, evaluate release readiness, and measure progress on QE initiatives, e.g., reduced defect leakage, increased test automation coverage, and reduced test cycle times. 

  • Act as a change agent within the Storable organization to improve quality and agility.


People Management Responsibilities:

  • Set and communicate team/individual objectives and key performance indicators to motivate individuals to achieve high performance.

  • Implement development plans and coach individuals to reach their maximum potential.

  • Provide ongoing constructive feedback on performance and address development needs in a timely manner.

  • Recognize high performers to maintain motivation and retain key talent.

  • Regularly communicate relevant company information and progress against business plan.

  • Provide opportunities for team development and interaction.

What you bring to the table:


  • Computer science degree or equivalent experience

  • 10 years of relevant work experience in the software product industry with 5 years in a Quality Engineering leadership role in a web applications/cloud services environment

  • Proficiency in JavaScript, Python, Go, or another object-oriented language

  • Experience with at least one modern JavaScript framework (React, Vue, Angular, etc.)

  • Hands-on experience with commercial and open source test automation frameworks and tools, e.g. unit, API/Services and UI test automation frameworks like Junit, Mocha, Jasmine, TestNG, FitNesse, SOAP UI, Cucumber/Gherkin, Selenium

  • Strong organizational leadership and people management skills, including proven track record growing people and building innovative offerings that delight customers

  • Proven ability to drive continuous improvements in organizational performance and efficiency, growth and career development for employees and innovation for customers

  • Track record of delivering outstanding outcomes for customers, employees and shareholders in a customer-driven technology organization

  • A laser focus on outstanding business outcomes with effective and fast decision making that considers the interests of all three key stakeholders – employees, customers and shareholders

  • Ability to work successfully in a complex, matrix organizations leading through influence and direct authority across intact teams and larger organizations

  • Ability to work well through ambiguity, confidence in making tough calls and leading through adversity with a sharp focus on the eventual right outcomes

  • A strong technology background coupled with experience in making the right tradeoffs that get the job done well. Must be very comfortable with Agile methodologies in order to be able to arrive at difficult engineering decisions quickly

  • Practical, architectural-level capabilities in programmatic web and mobile test automation framework creation

  • Practical experience in all types of testing including functional white box and non-functional testing such as performance and reliability
